Moroccan summer temperatures can soar, with Marrakech reaching up to 50 degrees. If you’re looking to visit Morocco but don’t feel like braving the heat, there are some beautiful places to visit with much more temperate summer climates.
- Essaouira
Known as the ‘windy city,’ this oceanside city in perched on the Atlantic Ocean and enjoys summer temperatures in the mid to high twenties, a laid-back medina and some beautiful surf spots.
At less than a 3 hour drive from Marrakech, this is a perfect destination for those wishing to take advantage of cheap off-peak flights into Marrakech. It also has its own small airport with direct flights from London Stansted.
Be sure to wander around the old medina, eat fresh fish in the port, and if you have a car, venture to some of the sleepy surf towns further down the coast such as Sidi Kaouki.
2. Ifrane
Known as ‘the Switzerland of Morocco,’ thanks to its clean air, manicured streets and red-roofed houses, Ifrane is set high up in Atlas Mountains and is the perfect spot for escaping the summer heat, whilst enjoying some of Morocco’s most spectacular countryside.
Visit lakes, waterfalls, and the cedar forest for beautiful hiking trails and the chance to spot the wild Barbary apes that inhabit the forest.
3. Agadir
Agadir is located along Morocco’s southern Atlantic coast, in the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, and is the capital of the Amazigh heartland. A resort destination, it’s known for its golf courses, wide crescent beach and seaside promenade lined with cafes, restaurants and bars, here you can find perfect summer weather, sandy beaches and the chance to partake in diverse watersports.
4. Dakhla
A lesser known destination, Dakhla is peninsula surrounded by pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and stunning desert dunes. Here you can enjoy swimming, watersports, camel riding, or indulging in the local oysters.
Dakhla is accessible by domestic flight from Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca, and can also be reached directly by plane from Paris.

5. Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen is a small city in the Rif Mountains, known as “the Blue Pearl of Morocco” because the buildings, streets, gardens, and walls of the old medina are painted blue.
Chefchaouen is easily accessible from Tangier or Fes by car or public transport. Here, you can spend hours wandering around the medina, hike to the Akchour waterfalls, or simply relax taking in the mountain views.
